ENVS Awards

Awards and Scholarships

The Environmental Studies Department offers undergraduate and graduate student awards and scholarships, available to students majoring in Environmental Studies. The awards are available during the regular academic year, with different awards offered per quarter.

The Academic Services Coordinator administers all the department scholarships, and has resources available for students applying for these awards. Any student interested in applying for a department scholarship should email the coordinator or check the department's Award Opportunities page.

Other scholarships and awards are coordinated through the Financial Aid Office, and through the Office of Honors and Awards.


Fall 2009 Award Opportunities

The deadline for fall awards is Friday, November 20th at 4pm. Applications should
be handed in to room 405 ISB.


The Environmental Studies Department is proud to offer the following awards to undergraduate and graduate students this quarter (click on award names to download the application):

The Alan Church Environmental Pre-Law Award will support an award for an outstanding student who is pursuing studies leading to a career in environmental law.This award, up to $800, will be applied to the student’s tuition and fees only, with the following optional exception: up to $300 may be used to fund the student’s Capstone, Senior Seminar, Senior Thesis, or Senior Internship project expenses, if pre-approved by the student’s major advisor.

The CONCUR, Inc. Scholarship: This award of up to $500 is given to graduate and undergraduate students who have demonstrated an interest or are pursuing studies in environmental dispute resolution. It is for Environmental Studies students, and the award shall be based on academic merit as indicated by performance in classes and internships and academic recommendations.

The Richard A. Cooley Award in Environmental Studies: An award of up to $1000 will be given to one or more continuing UCSC students for a field project that results in a tangible, positive action for the betterment of the natural environment or improvement in environmental quality. This award is given in honor of Richard Cooley, founder of the Environmental Studies program at UCSC.

Applications are available outside of room 405 ISB.
