I am conducting an interdisciplinary analysis of the use and management of small diameter trees (5-35cm dbh) as polewood in the common property forests of southeastern Mexico. This research includes a quantitative study of the effects of the removal of polewood on forest structure and diversity, and uses a forest chronosequence to estimate maximum harvesting limits of the rare and threatened species. In addition, I evaluate the use of this resource using both a common property theoretical framework and a multiple stakeholder analysis to identify policy, user, and market conflicts and possible solutions for effective management. |
