I'm studying the endangered Ohlone Tiger Beetle (OTB) in Santa Cruz County. I am looking at the relative importance of patch spatial characteristics (area, isolation, connectivity) versus habitat quality when it comes to OTB metapopulation persistence. I will also be studying population dynamics using matrix models and sensitivity analysis to determine which life stage of the OTB is most vulnerable. Genetic work will allow me to determine if populations are interbreeding and which are genetically isolated. My overall goal is to determine the best management strategy that can be adopted by all stakeholders involved and prevent extinction of the OTB metapopulation. |
