My dissertation research focuses on current environmental management conflicts in the agricultural areas of California's Central Coast. Food safety standards promoted by private produce companies in many cases direct crop growers to conduct activities which negatively impact wildlife and water quality. My work is theoretically grounded in geography and political ecology. I am exploring how different institutions are using science and power to encourage conflicting agricultural management practices. I am also working in cooperation with local NGOs in order to help aid conflict resolution. |
