Research Focus
I am interested in applying quantitative methods to population dynamics, conservation biology, tropical ecology, and marine ecology. I have been modeling the impacts of human hunting in Manu National Park, Peru in response to calls from conservationists advocating the removal of the Matsigenka inhabitants. Conservationists and indigenous rights advocates are at odds over the impact of hunting, however no adequate quantitative methods currently exist to assess the level of impact. Perhaps this is a case where modeling can offer us insight into better, and cooperative, management decisions.
