Internship Letter

Dear Prospective Interns,

Your life may be about to change in a big way. Landing an internship and successfully completing it could change everything you thought possible about a University education. In the five years I have been the Environmental Studies Internship Coordinator, well over 2000 student interns have worked in offices on campus, in state offices in Sacramento and federal offices in Washington, D.C..

Our interns have planted and harvested fruits and vegetables in school gardens, campus gardens, and at for-profit organic farms. You will likely encounter former UCSC Environmental Studies interns in classrooms, farm houses, and alternative energy venues throughout the state of California too.

An interns' work always results in gaining valuable experience, as well as academic credit, and it often leads to a future job. Former student interns currently work for the City of San Francisco's Department of Public Works, the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), Allied Waste of Alameda County, Earthcraft Sustainable Landscape, Shimmick Construction in Oakland, and the Santa Cruz County Resource Conservation District. Students are eligible to intern from their very first quarter all the way through to their senior year, and many do!  Participating in the ENVS internship program at UC Santa Cruz is the best way for entering and developing professional networks and building an inspiring and job-generating resume.

Stop by our office,or simply call or email us to set up an appointment. Setting up your internship earlier, than later, is always the best advice I can offer new students and transfers. And you seniors who keep 'meaning to stop by' and get your senior internships together for the coming year, right now is the best time!

Hope to see all of you soon and have a great year!

Sincerely,
Chris Krohn
