Delaney Pues (she/they) is a PhD student and Cota Robles Fellow at the University of California, Santa Cruz. They have worked in the nonprofit sector for five years, addressing social and environmental problems. Delaney has spoken at leading institutions through lectures, panels, roundtables, and meetings on the role of equity and justice in carbon dioxide removal. They have advised on responsible deployment of carbon removal for leading organizations in the field, including Carbon180 and Carbon Business Council, and for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Delaney’s research investigates the intricate interplay between carbon removal (CDR) and the critical domains of climate and environmental justice. Their scholarly pursuits are driven by a desire to contribute to a livable and just future. Delaney is interested in the multifaceted dimensions of this nexus, delving not only into the technical aspects of CDR but also into the social and political intricacies that underpin its implementation and impact. Through their work, Delaney aspires to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of how CDR can be harnessed to mitigate climate change while concurrently addressing the disparities and inequities that often arise in the pursuit of globally scaled industries and technologies.
