Research Interests

My research looks at restoration in the context of tropical productive agroecosystems. In particular, I study silvopastoral systems (SPS), a form of agroforestry that integrates multiple layers of trees and shrubs with grazing pastures. SPS are a promising alternative for productive intensification of livestock production in the Neotropics. Their high productivity is based on the ecological interactions and processes that they harbor over time, and therefore, SPS could also have potential as a tool for ecological restoration of tropical forest landscapes. My research aims to understand how SPS can be integrated with and contribute to restoration efforts in cattle dominated landscapes, both ecologically and social. The goal is to design production systems that align the landowners' goals with restoration goals, to enhance productivity and resilience in these landscapes.
