Agency Description:
Año Nuevo State Park has begun efforts to convert its 30+ acres of invasive grassland to native coastal scrub habitat. Harding Grass, an invasive used as forage for grazers in the park’s ranching history, as well as thistle, hemlock, and others are the targets for removal. This project is the first of its kind at Año Neuvo, no large-scale habitat restoration has ever occurred at the park so any interested students are vital in spearheading these efforts.
Intern Responsibilities:
Interns will help design and implement native habitat restoration efforts across the 30+ acres of invasive-filled grasslands on the Ano Nuevo preserve. Duties will range from weed management/removal, sheet mulching, plant identification, planting natives, as well as utilizing park supplied power tools for vegetation removal. Duties are dependent on season.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to provide transportation to/from Año Nuevo State Park. Carpools can be established if needed.
Intern Shifts: Ideal shifts would be anytime Monday-Wednesday starting at 9AM but some flexibility on the day is possible
