Agency Description:

Santa Cruz Community Farmers’ Markets was established in 1990 and runs five markets in the north county region. Our mission is to connect small farms and local food makers with residents – acting as a hub for food access, public health and community building while promoting the region’s strong farming tradition.

Intern Responsibilities:

Interns will learn and support the basic mechanics of running farmers markets including set up, breakdown, customer service and the facilitation of our food access programs. Interns can also specialize on projects specific to their interests and skills, working with us to develop educational materials, graphics, photography and stories that promote and support our role and reach in the community.

Other Requirements:

Be comfortable working with the public. Able to lift 40 pounds. 

Intern Shifts:

We prefer interns to work at least one market shift weekly during their internship. The year-round placements include:

  • Downtown Santa Cruz Market, Wednesdays, 11:30a-5:30p
  • Westside Santa Cruz Market, Saturdays, 8a-2p
  • Live Oak Market, Sundays, 8a-2p

Seasonal, May-October (spring/summer interns)

  • Felton Market, Tuesdays, 12:30-6:30p
  • Scotts Valley Market, Saturdays, 8a-2p

Which shift is flexible and we do sometimes work with interns on independent projects that don’t include market work.
