Agency Description:

The Wetland Ecosystem Ecology Team in Environmental Studies at UCSC seeks to understand how wetlands function and communicate their value to interested stakeholders. The focus is on biogeochemistry, especially carbon and nitrogen cycles and their impact of atmospheric greenhouse gases and the Earth’s climate system. The team is also interested in biodiversity, conservation and management of wetland resources.

Intern Responsibilities:

The intern will support database construction by reviewing primary data sources to ensure completeness and accuracy, flagging places where useful data may have been left behind or where errors appear. Other tasks may include filling holes in incomplete bibliographic entries or systematically viewing data locations on Google Earth to flag spatial errors.

Intern Shifts: 

Shifts are flexible, though some components of the internship involve meetings with mentors that most happen during the week 9-5 and need to be scheduled based on the mentors’ availability.

Location: Flexible. Some in-person meetings in person in the Interdisciplinary Science Building, but most of the work can be done remotely.
