Assistant Professor Natalia Ocampo-Peñuela has collaborated and mentored with several graduate students and postdocs, resulting in several publications, including:

  • Conservation ecology lab Ph.D. student Julián Llano was awarded a WWF Fonseca Leadership Program fellowship to support his Ph.D. research documenting the roles of Indigenous and Afrocolombian territories in bird conservation in Colombia.
  • Conservation Ecology Lab postdoc Monte Neate-Clegg led a paper in Conservation Science and Practic, looking at bird functional diversity and conservation status in Colombia.
  • Mentoring a Colombian Ph.D. student in analysis that resulted in a paper looking at morphological shifts in birds with measurements 100 years apart.

Ocampo-Peñuela was the lead author on a paper published in People and Nature that studied the global trends and drivers of birdwatching tourism, which also received coverage in the UC Santa Cruz newscenter. A related paper looks at birdwatchers’ decisions. Listen to her latest podcast feature on this research >>
