Undergraduate Honors

Honors in Environmental Studies

ENVS Department honors are generally awarded to the top 10 to 15 percent of ENVS graduating seniors and Highest Department honors to the top 5 percent or less. These honors designations are recognition of outstanding acheivement by ENVS students and are printed on their transcripts and diplomas. Students do not need to apply for honors, they are awarded automatically after grades are posted at the end of the student's last quarter.

Senior Comprehensive Honors:

  • Only applicable to senior thesis, senior internships or individual work in a senior seminar.
  • Honors must be awarded by student's faculty sponsor, and a second faculty member (chosen by student's advisor) must confer. Student can ask their senior exit instructor to consider their final senior project for honors determination.

Departmental Honors:

  • 3.5 GPA in all courses used to satisfy the ENVS upper division requirements. Students are limited to no more than one pass/no pass upper-division course requirement in order to remain eligible for honors consideration.

Highest Department Honors:

  • 3.75 GPA in all courses used to satisfy the ENVS upper division requirements (no more than one pass/no pass course) and...
  • Must also receive senior comprehensive honors (see above).

Honors in a combined major will be awarded when the student's course work meets the honors criteria in both departments. Students are encouraged to contact the advisor in their non-ENVs department to ask them what they use to determine honors in their department.
