Prospective First-Year Student Information
We're so glad you're interested in UC Santa Cruz and the department of Environmental Studies! We would love to have you join our community of students and scholars. Some of the stand-out aspects of our department are:
- We offer five majors along with three concentrations, and are happy to assist students in determining the best fit for them
- We have a strong internship program where you can earn units, while getting valuable hands-on experience in a variety of types of environmental work
- Students in ENVS are encouraged to participate in field courses, research, study abroad, and other experiences to expand their learning beyond the classroom, and we work closely with students to incorporate these opportunities into their academic plans
- Environmental Studies is a very interdisciplinary department, which is evident in the diversity of work and research done by our excellent faculty -- everything from national policy advocacy, to conservation of birds and pumas, to the impact of agriculture and food systems on local populations, and more
We hope you will take a look around our website and explore our department's offerings. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to envsadvi@ucsc.edu and we will do our best to help!
